1. About these terms
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of survivechildabuse.com (the “website”). By accessing or using the website you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the website.
These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, Cookies Policy, Disclaimer and Editorial Policy. References in these Terms to “we”, “us” and “our” mean Survive Child Abuse.
2. About us
Survive Child Abuse is an independent, peer-led group of adult survivors of childhood abuse, based in the United Kingdom. We operate the website to share, in good faith, the personal reflections and practical experience of our members.
We are not a charity, a regulated healthcare provider, a medical body, a counselling service, a crisis service, or a legal practice.
3. Accepting these terms
Each time you use the website you confirm that you accept the version of these Terms then in force. If you do not, you must stop using the website.
4. Use of the website
You may use the website for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes, including reading our content and contacting us. The website is intended for adult users (18 and over).
5. Acceptable use
When using the website, including any contact form or messaging facility, you must not:
- Use it in any way that breaches applicable laws or regulations or is fraudulent, harmful or unlawful.
- Send, upload, transmit or attempt to upload any content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, threatening, harassing, abusive, or that infringes the rights of any other person.
- Send any unsolicited advertising or promotional material.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, the server on which it is hosted, or any related system, including by introducing viruses, trojans, worms, logic bombs or other harmful material.

All content on the website — including all Sparks, Hints & Tips, “What I’ve Learnt” pieces, articles, information pages, and any other material — is general information shared on a peer-to-peer basis. It is not, and must not be relied upon as, medical, psychiatric, psychological, therapeutic, counselling, legal or other professional advice.
Content reflects the personal experience and views of the contributing author or editor and is not necessarily the view of Survive Child Abuse as a whole. Please refer to our Disclaimer for further information.
7. Your contributions
If you submit content to us, including a Spark, Hints & Tips piece, “What I’ve Learnt” piece, or message, the following terms apply.
- You retain ownership of any content you submit. You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use, edit, reproduce, distribute and publish your contribution in connection with survivechildabuse.com and our work, until you withdraw your consent.
- You confirm that the content is yours, that you are entitled to grant the licence, and that the content does not breach any third-party rights, including the rights of any other person who might be identifiable from it.
- We may edit your contribution before publication, including for anonymisation, length, clarity, accuracy, and consistency with our Editorial Policy.
- You may withdraw your contribution at any time by contacting us. We will normally remove the piece from public view within five working days.
- We may decline to publish, or remove, any contribution that does not meet our Editorial Policy.
8. Intellectual property
Except for content owned by individual contributors and licensed to us as set out in section 7, all material on the website is owned by or licensed to Survive Child Abuse and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
You may view, download for personal use, and print extracts of content from the website, provided you do not modify the content, do not remove any copyright or other notices, and do not use the content for any commercial purpose without our written consent.
You may not republish, sell, license, sub-license, rent, transfer, copy, reproduce, duplicate, redistribute or otherwise exploit content from the website without our prior written consent.

17. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, save that nothing prevents a consumer who is resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom from bringing proceedings in their home jurisdiction where the law allows.
