Written by Survivors, for Survivors
If you’re here, you’ve already taken a courageous step. Recovery from childhood abuse isn’t about “getting over it” — it’s about reclaiming who you are. It isn’t a destination you arrive at one day, but an ongoing journey of rediscovering yourself beneath the layers of survival strategies you built to protect yourself.
You are not broken. You are a person who experienced things no child should ever have to endure, and who developed remarkable strategies to survive. Everything from this point forward is about building the life you deserve, using the strength you have already proven you possess.
Our approach
Keep It Simple for Success
We’ve built our approach around one guiding idea: Keep It Simple for Success (KISS). This isn’t about oversimplifying the complex reality of trauma recovery — it’s about breaking down what can feel overwhelming into manageable, achievable steps. Recovery doesn’t require dramatic gestures. It happens through small, consistent actions that accumulate over time.
Our framework has two parts, working together:
The Four Pillars
The principles that underpin recovery.
The 4-Step Guide
The day-to-day practice that puts each pillar into action.
The four pillars
The Four Pillars of Recovery
Your recovery rests on four essential pillars. Each supports and strengthens the others.
Self-Awareness and Reflection
Developing a compassionate understanding of your patterns, triggers, and responses.

Putting the Pillars into Practice
Each step puts one pillar into action. Each builds on the last — but you don’t have to follow them in order. Recovery isn’t linear, and you may find yourself cycling through these steps multiple times as life changes. That flexibility is the point.
Reflect and Reconnect
Taking an honest, compassionate look at where you are today. Creating safe spaces for reflection, practising gentle self-awareness, and beginning to reconnect with your authentic self.
Read Step 1 →Renew and Rejuvenate
Establishing healthy routines and practices that support your overall wellbeing — small, sustainable changes that create a foundation for lasting healing.
Read Step 2 →Recover with Action
Shifting from inward reflection to outward engagement. Taking deliberate actions that align with your values and goals, and breaking cycles of isolation.
Read Step 3 →Review and Repeat
Regularly reviewing your progress, celebrating how far you’ve come, and adjusting your approach as you continue to evolve.
Read Step 4 →Spiral, not a ladder
Think of It as a Spiral, Not a Ladder
Each time you cycle through these steps, you do so from a place of greater wisdom, strength, and self-awareness. What once felt impossible becomes manageable, and new horizons of possibility open up. There’s no timeline you must follow. Small, consistent actions create the most sustainable change — and your healing journey is uniquely yours.

It is designed to help you understand and reflect on your own recovery. It is not a clinical assessment, a diagnostic tool, or a substitute for professional support. Please see a qualified professional for any decision affecting your health, treatment, or safety. This section is most useful read alongside our Guides on the primary types of abuse and our Guide for Partners of Survivors.
